- I dream of Kalachuchi
Kalachuchi means Plumeria in Tagalog - Kalachuchi or as it is known in English as Frangipani or Plumeria, is a fragrant and delicate flower. Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure butterflies to pollinate them. The flowers have no nectar, and simply dupe their pollinators. (What a very mean species of flowers...)
It is commonly found in the Philippines and other tropics.
The butterflies in this painting are Morpho amathonte which can be also found in the tropical forests of of the Phillippines but are now quite rare due to habitat destruction. I think they are the most beautiful and mysterious in the insect kingdom.
The lady in this painting is a self-portrait, and is wearing a traditional Philippine dress made from pineapple fibers or Pina. I tried to keep the floral embroidery as accurate as possible.
As for the skull, well... I just like skulls! Oh yeah, it represents mortality!
:)

‘MEGA’ is a creation of the urban arts collaborative ‘Foo Dog’ and is the first designer toy to be created by an Emarati - Mohammed Abedin. MEGA is set to give artists a new medium of creativity and a new mode of expression.
100 selected professional artists living and residing in the UAE took part in this concept and customized 100 designer toys which then went on to be displayed in the Gate Village at DIFC making it one of the largest ‘Custom Toys Exhibitions’ in Middle East.
The event brought together one of the greatest artistic collaborations of artists in the region and gave birth to a new take on the urban art scene in the Middle East.

The Brownmonkeys, a Dubai-based art collective (of which Im part of) were asked to participate at the MinD Exhibit, held at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates. The exhibit featured works from over 20 artists, from audio-visual installations, sculture and wall art. The Brownmonkeys' stuff consisted of 120 mini-frames, each one a sketch/painting/doodle; artwork for the most part, revolves around the random strangers one meets in Dubai and quirks of being in this strange city. The MinD exhibit runs from March 12 to March 22, 2010.Illustration, Urbanism2010 -
Sino Tatay Mo? means "who's your daddy?" in the Tagalog language. The typography is courtesy of Quix Maiquez (http://quiccs.deviantart.com/) who sent it across to collaborate on. Anyhow Im a big fan of Daft Punk but not really much of a Darth Vader enthusiast. But I came across this amazing illustration of the pop duo (http://www.fanpop.com/spots/daft-punk/images/8312169/title/daft-punk), and i think the same style works for my take on the Star Wars villain.Typography, Illustration2010 -
